Tucker Beach Kitchen
The Alpine retreat
For this alpine retreat the kitchen brief to Masterwood Joinery was in terms of functional requirements and appliances, more commercial than domestic. Obviously, a prerequisite for the end product was for a kitchen sympathetic to the design elements and quality features of this beautiful, architecturally designed dwelling.
Taking advantage of views and providing ease of delivering food and drinks to indoor and outdoor dining and relaxation areas further added to the challenge of aesthetically containing a vertical freezer, two refrigerators, twin ovens, three sinks and two dishwashers within a layout enabling four to work at any one time.
Starting with food and drinks delivery, the solution can best be described as a hybrid mobile island or even a marble-topped butcher's block on casters. When not on the move, this dark walnut unit contributes to form and functionality as an island of additional bench space stationed between the twin sinks and free-standing back wall separating the main kitchen from an area that is more a second kitchen than scullery.
The six-coat white lacquer finish back wall delivers ample storage, houses twin ovens and integrated refrigerator and features a spacious alcove containing the stainless hobtop and ample bench space finished in hard wearing white Ceasarstone.
The rich tone of the marble splash back is almost mirror-like in reflecting the colour hues of the surrounding landscape seen through picture windows above the sinks.
Around the corner in the large scullery is yet more storage, an additional sink, dishwasher and upright freezer and refrigerator.
The visual link between the kitchen and open plan living room is achieved by an impressive 3.6m return from the sink bench finished in furniture standard dark oak with a rolled top.
