Best kitchen in New Zealand is by an NKBA designer in Cromwell

It's not your average, everyday work space, but this multi award-winning kitchen typifies the growing number of high-end projects by New Zealand designers gaining global recognition.

Stefan Sonntag, of Masterwood Joinery in Cromwell, has won the 2019 NKBA Supreme Kitchen Design Award for the Lake Hayes kitchen at the annual NKBA Excellence in Design Awards announced in Melbourne on Saturday, July 20.

The designer also collected four additional awards for the kitchen, which is priced between $80,000 and $100,000. And Masterwood Joinery received a Supreme award for the manufacture.

Sonntag describes the two-island kitchen as a "paradise for clients who are enthusiastic cooks".

Special features include a cantilevered teppanyaki grill mounted in engineered stone, a marble-topped pastry island, self-contained coffee-making area, scullery and commercial stainless steel kitchen extractor.

Other luxury custom details include a six-door, glass-fronted display cabinet, and traditional Japanese sliding screens that separate the kitchen from a family living area.
